District Voting & Friday Night Lights Cinco de Mayo Preview

Ted Mathias (San Carlos Little League) sent you a message.

Hi SCLL Parents,

It’s the Season Finale of Friday Night Lights, a special Cinco de Mayo edition at Highlands North.
We kick things off at 5 p.m. with a AAA game between the River Cats (7-6) at the 1st place Thunder (10-2).
The Majors game at 7 p.m. features the streaking Astros (8-7) at the Athletics (2-10-3).

A few housekeeping notes before we get to a short preview of the Majors game.

District voting will be held this weekend at every Majors game starting with tonight’s FNL game.
Every Majors kid is eligible to vote and we encourage everyone to turn in a ballot.
Exercise your right to vote!
And while we have no idea how the District voting will turn out, we feel certain this election won’t be influenced by Russia or Facebook.

Props to the AA Arkansas Razorbacks for an 11-0 start!
Props to the Majors Giants (13-2) for clinching the #1 seed throughout the playoffs!

With 2 games left in the Majors season, we have some interesting storylines.

Cole Roark of the Pirates is having a historic season at the plate and on the mound.
Roark is looking to join a rare group of 10 players in MLB history who have won the MVP and Cy Young in the same season.
Find out next week when we announce our regular season awards if Roark can become #11 on this list.

Roark is also gunning for the home run title.
He is tied with Richard LaGrill of the Padres with 5.
Jaquari Hughes (4) and Joey Lorenzini (3) of the Giants are lurking just behind them.
Lorenzini is the only 11 year old to hit a home run this season…last year 6 10 year olds hit home runs.
That’s how much the new bats have made a difference.

On to the Majors preview…

Oakland Athletics GM Billy Beane awoke in a drunken stupor at his Jack London Square hotel room.
He had been drinking margaritas the night before at the hotel lobby to celebrate Cinco de Mayo.
Beane’s cell phone was buzzing and as he looked down at the stream of messages and texts, he realized what he had done.
He had traded away his entire roster for Little League players.

And while some considered Beane the laughing stock of baseball, it turns out that even when he was drunk, Billy Beane knew exactly what he was doing!
Because this new Little League A’s team plays for the love of the game!
They play with heart, they play with passion, they play for each other.
Who needs Khris Davis when you have Brian “Bomber” Casey?
Casey hit his first home run of the season this week and his salary is a fraction of what Khris Davis makes.

So come check out the new Little League A’s tonight!

They face the surging Astros who have caught fire at the right time.
The Astros are led by Michael Pedrotti and Jake Loskutoff.
Loskutoff has the most interesting delivery on the mound, a cross between Luis Tiant and the Karate Kid.
If you stare too long at Loskutoff’s delivery, you will get hypnotized and put into a deep trance.
You may not wake up for years.
But the kid can pitch, as Loskutoff and the only female player in Majors, Tessa Folan, have led the Astros to a torrid second half stretch.

So come out to Friday Night Lights tonight.
The Snack Shack will be open!

And remember the moral of the story.
Be careful drinking margaritas at hotel lobby’s after midnight as strange things can happen!

Orale!!!
